The human need to connect with and feel valued is important. It is what makes us feel as though we are a part of something greater than ourselves. It allows us to feel supported and support others. Not just emotionally and through knowledge but also through sharing resources.

Community resources are assets in a community that help meet certain needs for those around them. It may have never come to mind before, but parking is a community resource. Think about it… Perhaps if you knew your neighbour really well, you could ask to borrow their spot for an hour or so, but what about when you need a spot on the other side of town? How would you share parking across different communities with people you have never met before? Additionally, who really knows their neighbours these days anyways. We needed a simple, safe and secure method to share resources with minimum effort required.

By creating an on-demand parking app that allows individuals to rent out their private parking spots, we are sharing a vital community resource and supporting those around us. It is this human touch that makes Oscar different from the faceless, transport industry.

Oscar was developed to help alleviate the pain of searching for parking in crowded areas. The idea came about when our co-founder Lisa felt the stress and frustration of finding parking at Bondi beach, and yet saw so many empty driveways dotted around. By renting out your car space you are changing the way we share our infrastructure and resources when we don’t use them, to create smarter, and more liveable cities.
